Explore Delhi’s first arboretum, Sunder Nursery, which is home to more than 300 trees and natural habitats, from wetlands to densely forested areas. This newly restored heritage park is located in Nizamuddin West, next to the Humayun’s Tomb complex. Formerly known as Azim bagh, the park spreads over 90 acres of lush green gardens, water bodies, and many UNESCO world heritage monuments.

It is a perfect location for picnics and nature walks, especially on sunny winter mornings and cool summer evenings. Moreover, the water bodies within the garden attract plenty of native and migratory birds, making this a fantastic place for bird watching. Therefore, in this article, I’ve listed five things that are a must if you’re visiting Sunder Nursery for the first time.

Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Monuments

Get a stimulating dose of history by exploring the six UNESCO World Heritage monuments within Sunder Nursery Complex. These 16th-century picturesque monuments are an ensemble of beautiful ornamental carvings that will boggle your mind with their intricate design and symmetry.

Stroll around the gardens of Sunder Nursery

Take a walk in the abode of nature to rejuvenate your soul and mind. The central axis, the lake, or the sunken gardens are your spots to sit and relax. Moreover, don’t forget to look out for the resident birds like peafowls and other wildlife.

Go on a Photowalk

If you cherish nature and landscape photography, consider this place your haven. Gather your photographer friends and go for a photo walk. I am a wildlife and landscape photographer, and I adore this place. There is so much to discover each season, from butterflies to tiny insects and birds to beautiful historic ruins. Plus, the Central Axis gets you the best sunset view. Add a cup of hot tea with some butter popcorn to elevate your experience to a new level. It is one of my favorite things to do here, and I highly recommend watching the sunset from Central Axis.

Visit Sunder Nursery’s Sunday Farmer’s Market

Farmer’s market is a new concept slowly creeping into our society for good. It’s a place to meet local producers and get an opportunity to buy things directly. Sunder Nursery’s Farmer’s Market by Earth Collective is an open-air market dedicated to a sustainable lifestyle and brings you the best products. Through this, they focus on raising awareness around personal health, well-being, and environmental sustainability. It is one of the best organic markets in Delhi, and I highly recommend visiting.

Dine at Fab Cafe or relish Mughlai Food at Nizamuddin Basti

Nizamuddin Basti has a plethora of eateries selling delicious Mughlai food like Kebabs and Biryani and desserts like Malpua and Firni. Alternatively, you can dine at Fab Cafe next to the lake. They offer a healthy version of everything we love, from momos to street food staples. This place remains busy throughout the day. Therefore, if you plan to dine at Fab cafe, be prepared to wait for at least 30-40 minutes to get a table. I stop by this cafe every time I visit the arboretum, and I recommend trying their Not so Chicken Momos and Sol Kadi. If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Nizamuddin, you can head to Qureshi Kebab Treat Corner at Khan Market to relish their special Butter Chicken and Kebabs.
