I am not an avid reader. I only prefer reading while travelling or on vacation. It helps me unwind my thoughts and to learn something new. However, in the time of the pandemic, I was in dire need of inspiration, that is when I came across this book called “Irrationally Passionate” via Blogadda.
I love taking up challenges, it helps me to grow and become better. Therefore, when Blogadda approached me for their book review program, I instantly accepted their offer. I am an extremely slow reader. I like to absorb every bit of the book I read. Hence, it was quite challenging when they asked to read the book in seven days. However, I was still able to finish it in 12 days thanks to my procrastination drive.
Irrationally Passionate is an autobiography of Jason Kothari, the former CEO of Housing.com, FreeCharge, Valiant Entertainment and former CSIO at Snapdeal.
About the author
We all know who Jason Kothari is, however, this is for those who, are new to the world of E-commerce. Jason Kothari is known as the turnaround expert thanks to his Snapdeal 2.0 stint, where he turned the company’s monthly US$ 20 million loss into profit. It is not only with Snapdeal but with all the companies he worked starting from Valiant Entertainment to Housing.com to FreeCharge.
About the book
The book is about Jason Kothari’s journey, starting from his college to working as an entrepreneur. The author has neatly divided the book into eleven chapters, each focusing on different aspects of his journey. He shared intricate details about entrepreneurship and vital features of big and small businesses. He also shared his ideology and strategies of cropping a business model, and the seven golden pillars of forming a framework for any ideal start-up.
I loved the way he narrated each incident of his life that has collectively contributed to his success. The language is simple, flowy and easy to read. The book is a fabulous example of great storytelling. Here are a few of my favourite instances and quotes from the book.
1. In the Agra episode, where the author learned the art of negotiation
2. When the author bought his favourite comic book company and turned it into the third biggest company after Marvel and DC
3. Favourite quote from the book
No entrepreneur’s path is ever a straight line. Setbacks are constant, disappointments guaranteed.
Money isn’t a goal; it is a by-product. Money flows to value. When you create the latter, you get the former.
The book is an excellent read for aspiring entrepreneurs to get inspiration and gain insights into the entrepreneurial world. Here’s a link to the book.
