Lodhi Colony, known as the Art District, is a rage among the youth. Especially photographers and art enthusiasts. A first of its kind in India, established in 2016 by St+art India, a non-profit organisation. Whose aim is to make art available to a larger audience. So grab your bags and head to the Lodhi Art District for a one of a kind walking tour.
How did it start?
The St+art India began its journey in 2015 with a small scale project that later expanded into an Art Festival in 2016. They invited artists from India and abroad to showcase their brilliance on the walls of the Lodhi Colony.
How to Reach the Lodhi Art District?
Located between Khanna Market and Meharchand Market, the Art District is easy to reach by local transit. JLN Stadium Metro Station (Violet Line) is the closest station. You can either take an auto-rickshaw or walk up to the Art District.
About the place
As I mentioned earlier, the Art District is an open-air art gallery. Therefore, there’s no entry fee. Moreover, you can do this tour yourself. There are more than 30 murals that you can explore. Each mural depicts a theme or message that is fun to interpret. A great place for photoshoots, as the murals can act as a great backdrop. Moreover, there are no extra permissions required, unlike the monuments.
Tips for your visit
π₯Ύ I recommend exploring the place on foot. However, if you’re coming by car, you can park it at any two markets.
π± The total time depends on the purpose of your visit. However, if you’re solely coming to see the murals, it would take an hour on foot.
πΊοΈ If you stay afar, you can club your visit with the nearby attractions like Lodhi Garden, Safdarjung Tomb, Nizamuddin Basti, Humayun’s Tomb etc.
πΈ Don’t forget to charge your cameras as you won’t get enough of the murals. Moreover, exploring the Art District on foot can be slightly tiring. Therefore, wear comfortable walking shoes and carry a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated.
Open-air Art District is a new concept for us. However, one cannot understand its true brilliance and the hard work that these amazing artists have put into their murals unless visited. Therefore, I would highly recommend my readers to visit this place.

Hey
Thanks so much for this post. Been wanting someone to feature this as a DIY walking tour. I hope to go this winter after years of delaying it.
Would it be convenient for you to share a rough hand drawn image of where the mural are or what route one should follow while walking.
