If you’re looking for ideas to spend your weekends in Seattle or other parts of Washington, you’re at the right place. In this blog post, I’ll share details about one of the most scenic state parks in Washington State. It is known for turbulent blue waters and breathtaking view of the San Juan islands.

We visited Deception Pass State Park during my trip to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. We clubbed the two, as it was just 15 minutes drive from La Conner. The view was absolutely stunning, and we saw many wildlife species, from sea otters to seal pups to herons. Therefore, I highly recommend visiting this place if you find yourself in Washington, especially during Summer.

About Deception Pass State Park

Deception Pass is a strait that separates Whidbey Island from Fidalgo Island (Anacortes and surroundings), connecting the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the Saratoga Passage. The name “Deception Pass” originated from early explorers who were deceived by the passageway’s narrow appearance from afar.

The bridge and its surrounding area are now part of the State Park, making it a popular recreational destination for the people of Washington. The park offers scenic beauty and loads of outdoor activities to its visitors.

Car is the best option to enjoy this state park to the fullest as there are no direct buses connecting this state park to any major city in Washington. However, if you decide to travel using public transit, here’s how you can reach Deception Pass, State Park:

  • Board the Clinton-Mukilteo Ferry to reach Whidbey Island.
  • Hop on to Bus Route 1 until Harbor Station Transfer Center Bayshore Dr.
