India is a diverse country, and when it comes to travel, there is so much that you can explore. I’ve been to the hills, explored the beaches, traversed the forests and the cities. But what I’ve noticed is that only a few get their fair share of fame, and the rest remain unexplored or underrated. So here’s a list of some underrated and a few famous places that you can explore.
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when someone says Manali? Snow-capped mountains, swaying Oak and Deodar trees, gushing rivers and streets flooded with tourists. Yes, this is precisely how it is for any first-timer. But for a returning visitor, the city might act as a gateway to many new adventures.
It was in the year 2016 when I first came across Lansdowne in a travel magazine, a pristine hill station in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. Named after Lord Lansdowne, one of the viceroys of British India, it now serves as the residence of the Garhwal regiment.
Over the years, Lansdowne has become a popular destination amongst tourists because of its picturesque beauty and tranquil atmosphere. People visit this city to relax and detox their minds and souls. Moreover, due to its proximity to Delhi, it also serves as an ideal weekend getaway destination.
Ooty is a city tucked in the Blue Mountains of the Indian state, Tamil Nadu. This hill station is crowned as the ‘Queen of Hill Stations’, is a great choice for an ideal southern getaway. What makes this place more attractive is its pleasant weather and the scenic beauty. Amidst the eucalyptus and pine forest, resides a city that gives that awaits exploration. From highest peak to the prettiest lakes, let us dig into the city’s core to experience Ooty to the fullest.
The best thing about being on road is that you get to explore beyond the set itinerary. Pykara is one such place that we explored on our journey to Mysore from Ooty. This came as a pleasant surprise from our driver to us and to be honest, this place was an epitome of beauty.
Some places make you feel happy, some refreshed, whereas Barot makes you feel content. Who knew that a random plan would turn out to be so amazing and the credit solely goes to Barot. A small valley hidden in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. The town is beautiful, colourful and pristine. It is one of the untouched places in Himachal and so you get to see and feel the true beauty of the mountains.
Chail is a beautiful hill station located at the foothills of the Himalayan range. This place was built as the Summer Capital by Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh after his exile from Shimla. The place is just 44 km away from Shimla and 31 km away from Kufri was the perfect detour on our Kufri excursion.
My mom usually prefers going on group tours, but last year I took mom to her first solo adventure trip to Shimla. It was a 4-days and 3-nights tour that we had booked from Travel Triangle.
“Heaven on Earth” is what people call Kashmir. The princely state lies in the north most part of India residing in the lap of Himalayas. You cannot just visit and see places in Kashmir, you need to feel the beauty and experience them to get the true essence of this place. If you find yourself in Kashmir for the first time, just follow this itinerary to experience every inch of the heaven.
