A visit to Old Delhi seems incomplete without a visit to the Karims. One of the oldest food joints at Chandni Chowk, serving lip-smacking Mughlai food. You can smell the rich aromatic spices from a far distance. This restaurant has been on my list for a long time. In the winter of 2018, I finally made a trip to Old Delhi exclusively to eat at the Karims.
This was my second visit to Old Delhi. A bright summer day when my school friends decided to explore the most amazing part of Delhi. The place spilt out history from every inch. It is the only place in the city, where you find the most ordinary things extraordinary…
The walled city also known as Shahjahanabad during the Mughal reign has always attracted me. This place later came to be known as Old Delhi and is simply chaotic. Narrow lanes, hanging wires, old monuments, crowded markets and tasty street food are few things that perfectly describe it.
Last month my friend @sketchesintravel visited Delhi and asked me to show him few interesting places around the city. So, I decided to take him around a short heritage walk through the lanes of Delhi. We started the day early as we had to cover 8 spots which included two food stops. I was meeting everyone at INA metro station which was midway and then, I was to take up the responsibility of driving everyone around for the day from there.
Tucked in the narrow lanes of Old Delhi resides a gorgeous 200-year-old mansion known as Goel Sahab ki Haveli, a.k.a Haveli Dharampura. This UNESCO award-winning haveli offers fine dining with a fine view of Old Delhi and a heritage hotel experience that transports straight to the Mughal era.
